What is Scrapstorian?

Scrapbooker + Story teller + Historian = Scrapstorian
We are scrappers, story tellers, artists, family historians.
We love the people, places and memories that make up our lives.
We love the pictures and papers that help us tell those stories.

Meet the team:

Brande

Hi! My name is Brande, and I go by just plain ol’ B to family and friends. I grew up in Edmonton, Alberta and am now living and loving Vancouver, BC. As a born and raised flat lands, prairie girl, I still get very excited about Vancouver’s beautiful beaches, mountains, and green grass all year.

My passions are family, travel, hiking, photography and then of course scrapbooking all of these things. If I won a million dollars, me and the fiancé would put on our trusty old 65L backpacks and travel the world – adventure to adventure, walking and hiking, from pub to museum to art gallery (and instead of flying home to see family, we would fly them to us!). After we tired of travel; home to scrapbook it all!

I have been scrapbooking for about 15 years (with a couple of lengthy hiatus’ spells in there).  I feel that I only found my grove in the last 3+ years though and am loving that! Maybe it was me, maybe it was all the amazing products out there now – or a combo of both. All I know is that I am no longer scared to use that ‘way too special embellishment or paper’ or try that new technique, or to just use my run of the mill go to layout – it all works, it’s all great, it’s all homemade and it’s all from the heart and THAT is what scrapbooking is about.

My go to scrapbook tool is my pen. Journaling, storytelling, documenting, titling (whatever you want to call it) is where my heart really sings. I hate my own hand writing when I journal but had to get over that. I remind myself that seeing my mom’s, dad’s, sisters or whoever’s own handwriting on cards and letters is amazing to me – it means so much! So maybe mine will make other people happy too one day (or at least give them a chuckle over my poor grammar and spelling). This is also were my style was born; I tend to scrap in an old-school travel scrapbook look and feel.

Thanks for your interest and welcome to Scrapstorian.

Cheryl

Hi all, I’m Cheryl. I’m a Newfie transplant living in Calgary with two kidlets and my husband. I grew up considering writing to be my passion and outlet, but have many memories of collages, decorated notebooks and other sorts of glue-to-paper-projects. Scrapbooking was chosen for me, in a funny way. Three wonderful friends gave me a Creative Memories album and all the tools I needed to scrapbook my wedding. I was married for quite some time before it got finished …

It wasn’t until Shar hosted a Stampin’ Up! party that several other friends attended (and I missed!) that things got interesting. My husband was at the house where the girls were gathered and told them to “pick some stuff” for me. Once I had it, I had to learn how to use it. I made a few cards and there was no going back! I finished a baby album as a gift and an album for my husband after that glorious CM wedding book. Now I can’t imagine not scrapbooking.

I eat, sleep and breathe it! I get teased all the time for knowing too many products, designers, lines, etc. I admire (but can’t necessarily replicate) all styles of scrapbooking. My style leans toward the layered, messy, artsy, distressed side. I struggle to define or even narrow down my style because I think it’s always evolving and I love that! I will be diving into art journaling in 2014 and can’t wait to share some of that with you.

I’m the person behind the Scrapstorian Twitter and Instagram accounts, in case you’ve been wondering which one of us is posting selfies. I’m kind of a dork! You might also see some fitness posts from me, since that’s a big part of my life. I’m on a journey to learn more, make more, be more.

Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Sharlene (Shar), I live in Cochrane with my six year old son! My passions are finding adventures in everything, especially with my son, finding ways to grow as a person and embarrassing moments I get to spend with those closest to me…. Scrapbooking is my only hobby and I happily say that, ’cause I love it. I love everything about it! I have been scrapbooking for 15+ years now, starting with Creative Memories Party – where I hacked my pics with decorative scissors and, well, not so desirable stickers to misting, inking, pasting and creating my own background paper! The journey has been so fun, I am a crop weekend junkie… love the time away to just scrapbook, and not think of anything else and the chance to rub shoulders with the two most talented people I know plus learn new tricks and techniques and just plain old socialize!  I was once referred to as the scrapbook fanatic … I made sure everyone got in scrapbooking time … and if you’re struggling wtih a LO, I’ll drop what I am doing and get all up in there to help, in a super great way! I want everyone around me to enjoy what they are creating!!!

I am a short term romancer; I have romances with techniques and products then move on the the next thing, not sure if you are like that too. For example, MISTING is my newest most favourite thing to use, no matter what LO I working on, there is always room for a spritz or two…

My two ultimate tools are VersaMagic’s Jumbo Java and my edge distresser; can’t live with out them!

I am now venturing into layout sketching… it’s a big challenge for me there are so many talented designers out there that amaze me, and, well, I am a napkin idea girl! lol I challenge you to stop by our Sketchtorian section and give one of the sketches a try I would love to see what you create!
