Lets Get Sketchy and Colorful

Our new Jack Russel puppy (@BellaBeanPupPup) is finally starting to entertain herself and it no longer includes stealing my scrapbook supplies or biting at my socks and feet while I scrapbook. To celebrate this major puppy milestone, its time to get back to playing with sketch challenges! What better way to get back at it after this 6 month puppy induced hiatus than with a Let’s Get Sketchy challenge!

This month’s Let’s Get Sketchy sketch is another beauty by the oh so talented Brenshevia! She always creates such a balanced and striking sketch to play with – I can look back at my albums and spot her designs from all the rest. What signature! This month is a great example of her design touch. Here is a look at the sketch:

The evening I had set aside to play with the sketch my sister and bro-in-law’s save the dates for their upcoming wedding came in the mail and, as my sister is also a scrapbooker, it included a photo that was ripe for a layout! Great sketch, time to scrapbook, and a fabulous photo – sounds like the scrappy planets aligned. I literally sat right down after opening the mail and started to play …

My take on the sketch:

I am addicted to the Vicki Boutin, Kaleidoscope collection and reached for it again for this layout (as I have for 3 double page layouts, another single page layout, and 2 Traveler’s Notebooks in the last month). I love the idea of surrounding the black and white photo of my sis and her dreamboat with loads of colour!

Some close ups of all the colours I added using embellishments from the collection:

I just love how it turned out!

Every thing on this layout is Vicki Boutin with the exception of some Bazzill Basics Cardstock, Avalanche and a few of my favourite Shimmerz Paints (Vibez – Razzeldazzle Berry, Coloringz – Ahoy Matey, Creameez – Boogie Boardin’ Blue, Creameez – Trippin’ in the Tropics, Creameez – Power to the Purple). Both Avalanche cardstock and my Shimmerz are never out of reach – I literally use them on nearly every layout I create! I love having a go-to scrappy supply.

Thanks for swinging by and happy crafting!
