The 1 to 3 Challenge is a scrapbook kit review. A member of the Scrapstorian design team samples one scrapbook kit and applies it to three different sketch challenges in a month. We then document our experience for you – providing our thoughts on the kit company, the kit contents and how versatile it was for different challenges. We also talk about the sketch challenges themselves. Check out our past 1 to 3 Challenges.
For this 1 to 3 Challenge I am working with the super, fun product from Clique Kits. They have such an awesome online store, monthly kit club, traveller’s notebook kit, blog and more. Wow! I have bookmarked so much of their Instagram stuff you would think I am a shareholder. I am just starting to dabble in the Traveller’s Notebook world and suspect I also be checking out these kits soon.
For this 1 to 3 Challenge I ordered the March 2017 Clique Kits Monthly Kit called PLAY! Oh and play I did. How could I not with all of this product included: Shimelle Little by Little collection pattern papers x8, Shimelle Little by Little collection Project Life cut apart cards x2, Shimelle speciality paper x1, American Craft Thickers Alpha Magic, a whole host of embellishments (Shimelle Little by Little collection ephemera, Elle’s Studio acrylic stars mix, Elle’s Studio everyday label puffy stickers, Dear Lizzy Lovely Day adhesive tickets, Paige Events Heart Charms), and of course some Clique Kits Exclusions (Play flair, Play Digital Printable Sheets and Die Cut Files).
While in the end, with the cost of the actual kit and the shipping up here to Canada was around $50, it was honestly such a pleasure to work with and had such an amazing amount of awesome product that I was happy to pay the price. While this blog post only features 3 layouts (and a bonus) I bet you I can still get 4 more layouts out of the kit not to mention a bunch of left over embellishments that I will be able to use with a whole host of other product.
Below is pick of the goodies I received in the March 2017 PLAY monthly subscription kit – pretty easy to see why I was so excited to start PLAYing.
Okay now let’s see how the Clique Kits PLAY kit worked out in some April 2017 sketch challenges:
The Studio Challenges
The first challenge I participated in was with The Studio Challenges and their April 9, 2017 Sketch Challenge. This challenge has large blocks of paper in it so was a great chance to really showcase some of the awesome Shimelle Little by Little paper included in the Clique Kits PLAY kit and also had small circles with grouped embellishments (my favourite).

I have a wee, brand new nephew (just a month old when this post goes up on our blog) and I was itching to get his cuteness on a scrap page! This was the perfect pic for this challenge. Here is my take:
Let’s Get Sketchy
The second challenge I played with the Clique Kits PLAY kit on was with Let’s Get Sketchy and this awesome sketch from Brenshevia. I was instantly drawn to the angled split page and totally inspired by the fabulous design team takes on this sketch.

While scrapping this 1 to 3 Challenge I was actually with my sister and couple of besties in Calgary (I live in Vancouver) for a scrapbook weekend. As part of our weekend we challenged each other to answer at least a few questions about ourselves on a page. I incorporated this into this page by answering the questions in white pen as a border around the dark upper half of the page. So fun!
Paper Issues
The third challenge I played with using the Clique Kits PLAY kit was with Paper Issues. I am a huge fan of sketches that feature more than one photo like this one. For me, scrapping one photo on a page is relatively easy – only one picture to match to paper and embellishments means way less pressure. I find it hard to match paper to photos. Using multi-photo sketches helps me overcome that pressure for some reason even though I still have to pick paper. It doesn’t totally make sense but well hey that’s ok.
Here is the Paper Issues April 2017 Sketchy Saturday sketch:
My take on the sketch had me turning the sketch and adding few more photos so I could include all of these very silly funny face selfies I took with my baby sister a few years ago. The photos were originally in a 4×6 format but I shrunk them down to print into a 4×4 format and cut off the extra bits in order to get them all in here on a single layout. I really like how it worked out!
While this is meant to be just a 3 challenges to 1 kit blog post, I couldn’t resist sharing just one more page I created using the Clique Kits PLAY kit and its Shimelle Little by Little cuteness combined with a Studio Calico placemat (Studio Calico used to sell these before the days of cut files, it’s been in my stash for a while waiting for the perfect page). This picture has also been in my photo box for ages but I could never find the right paper for it – well voila! 9 years later it finds a home.
Of all the kits I have played with, Clique Kits is one of the ones I would definitely consider a kit subscription too. Even picking the March 2017 PLAY kit was hard because I wanted so many of the past kits and current kits they offer.
Check it out, you will not be disappointed.
