Hey scrappy friends. I failed miserably at blogging any December Daily progress last month but I am happy to report that it’s finished! I actually completed the book on December 30, and cheated with a little note for New Year’s Eve. Don’t tell. 😉
This is my third year doing December Daily and I still haven’t learned to not make a one that is not bursting at the seams. (Check out 2013 and 2012, if you don’t believe me.) Next year, I am going to use an 8.5×11 binder and keep it from exploding.
But, one year at a time … I altered a book for this year’s album. I will try to make note of the supplies, but many have been in my stash for a long time. I created my own kit based on the My Dream December kit from Scrap your Stash Kit Club. I wanted to see if I could make a DD without any themed supplies.
I wanted to video the album and flip through with you, but YouTube is not my friend today, so let’s just check out a few of my favourite pages.
Besides lots of gesso, I used some Heidi Swapp Project Life cards on the cover, some washi tape (the multi-coloured camera tape is from Michaels), We R Memory Keepers printed vellum (Gold Sentiment), We R Memory Keepers chipboard alphas and extra large Studio Calico wood veneer numbers. The stars in the background are from a stencil (of Brande’s I think) with Silks Acrylic Glaze. After some foundation pages were turning into miserable failures, I skipped ahead to the cover and regained my mojo!
This page has a mix of Simple Stories paper, more of the same PL cards, chipboard embellishments from the PL value pack and some washi. Here are a few more:
(Just a note, the gold ampersand paper is by My Mind’s Eye.)
I chose a mix of Thickers for numbers, three sets, and really had to get creative at the end. (Days 28 and 29 have question marks made into 2s.) I had some old-ish Crate Paper chipboard that filled in a few numbers and added embellishment to many pages. (And I still have tons more!)
Despite a few mishaps – some pages that had to be redone or covered up, some paint problems, some lumpy bumpy pages (because of how many book pages I adhered together) – I do like how it turned out. I’m not sure I’d chose to alter a book again, at least for a project like this. (Waiting for gesso to dry before I can work on a page slows down daily production!)
That’s it for me! I wanted to start 2015 with a clean scrap table. 🙂
How’s your December Daily coming along?
Wow, an altered book for Dec daily! Ambitious and you pulled it off beautifully!
Thanks! I almost wish I had realized how ambitious it was a mongh ago, but it was fun. 😉
Your December Daily looks amazing – love all the texture you have created!
