1 to 3 with Citrus Twist

Hello friends! I feel like it’s been forever. If you’ve had a look around lately, you’ve probably noticed we changed a few things around and added some pages, just to make things easier to find. One of the things we wanted you to be able to find is our 1 to 3 Challenge! The 1 to 3 Challenge involves one kit and three sketch challenges. You can find our previous posts on the 1 to 3 Challenge page.

I have had good intentions to do a 1 to 3 for ages, but was dragging my feet picking a kit. When I saw the Citrus Twist September I just want to Play Add on, I was sold! I had been drooling over the Shimelle for American Crafts collection for ages and had the paper in my stash but not the embellishments. Deal done! This kit had my name on it.

I placed my order on October 1 and by October 14, it was sitting on my dining room table. Inside the box, the kit was wrapped in a paper bag and tied with cute twine. (I swear I started singing, “Brown paper packages tied up with string …”) Shipping was $12, which, considering some shipping costs up here to the Great White North, seemed reasonable to me. You can check out the entire contents here, but below is the Citrus Twist photo:

I adore the colour scheme of this kit, but I knew the vellum, washi tape and yellow card stock would be tricky for me. Those just don’t look like “me”. I was determined to make it work. The first challenge I took on was the Canadian Scrapbooker Sketchy Challenge. Here’s the sketch:

I had a happy accident happen while working on this layout. I had rearranged the chipboard title several times, so it needed a little extra stick. I added too much glue and it seeped out around the edges. I decided to take a leap and add embossing powder to those areas. I like how it added a sort of shadow.

Supplies from kit: Crate Paper Notes & Things Paper (Be Kind, Signed) and chipboard, Shimelle for American Crafts Paper, American Crafts White Cardstock, Wesbter’s Pages Strawberry Fields vellum and word stickers, cherry blossom wash tape, doily. Supplies from my stash: Shimelle for American Crafts paper (Hall), Prima Fluid Chalk ink in Vintage Pink, Fireworks spray mist in Angel Pink, Smooch Spritz, Sharpie fine tip pen, Stampin’ Up! Melon Mambo embossing powder, Tombow Mono Multi Glue

Next up, I tackled the Scrap365 November sketch challenge.

In hindsight, this one would have been perfect for the final kit layout, since the layers just begged to use up scraps. Ah, well! I managed to get more of the vellum on this page, by punching several circles.

Supplies from kit: Crate Paper Notes & Things Paper (Signed), Heidi Swapp Dreany Dots paper, Shimelle for American Crafts paper (Leavitt), Pebbles Homemade paper (Aqua Skies), Wesbter’s Pages Strawberry Fields word stickers and vellum, Shimelle for American Crafts Cork embellishments, Authentique Harmony petit type alphas, Pink Paislee Hello Sunshine alphas, cherry blossom wash tape. Supplies from my stash: Shimelle for American Crafts Paper (Resnick and Hall), Simple Stories Good Day Sunshine transparency, circle punches, Sharpie fine tip pen, Scotch ATG adhesive gun

For my third and final trick … I mean page, I worked on this Creative Scrappers sketch:

Creative Scrappers 280

This one took a little more work. I didn’t have a full background sheet left from the kit but I didn’t want to add a third full page from my stash. After a few failed attempts, I decided to change the yellow card stock into a more workable background. I painted the edges with gesso, dipped a piece of crumpled newspaper into some Tattered Angels Simply Sheer mist and pounced it all over the still wet gesso.

The page really came together after that. I added more gesso using a stencil and used the remaining paper strips for layering.

COCT1to3-2

Supplies from kit: Crate Paper Notes & Things paper (Signed), Heidi Swapp Dreany Dots paper, Shimelle for American Crafts paper (Leavitt), Pebbles Homemade paper (Aqua Skies), American Crafts Banana cardstock, Studio Calico Brighton Pier paper (Under the Boardwalk), Fancy Pants Everyday Circus library pocket, Crate Paper Notes and Things chipboardWesbter’s Pages Strawberry Fields word stickers and vellum, Shimelle for American Crafts Cork embellishments, Authentique Harmony petit type alphas. Supplies from my stash: Shimelle for American Crafts Paper (Resnick and Hall), Liquitex gesso, Tim Holtz stencil (Splatter), Tattered Angels Plain Jane Simply Sheer mist (Burlap), Tim Holtz tiny attacher, Sharpie fine tip pen, Scotch ATG adhesive gun

And that’s it! Considering I used an add on and not a complete kit, I think three layouts is pretty good. I have a ton of alphas left, lots of chipboard, most of the vellum sheet and word stickers, half a doily, and these paper scraps. I added two full pieces of paper from my stash, but not much for embellishments.

I’m happy with this kit; even with a few tough pieces, I used a lot and made three pages I love. I might just have to wander back to Citrus Twist
