The 1 to 3 Challenge is a scrapbook kit review. A member of the Scrapstorian design team trials one scrapbook kit by applying it to three different sketch challenges in a month. We then document our experience for you – providing our thoughts on the kit company, the kit contents and how versatile it was for different sketch challenges.
For this 1 to 3 Challenge, I am going to tell you about my experience working with a kit from Scrap Shotz and the challenges of ScrapMuch?, Sketchabilities, and Scrap365.
My experience with Scrap Shotz has been great. There website is very simple and easy to use, with great categories so you can find the specific scrapbooking supply you are looking for. They include great photos of the actual products, as well as a list of the items included in any kit. Also, a special touch from Scrap Shotz is they send you a follow up email with ideas on how to use your kit that includes layout examples, a sketch and more.
With Scrap Shotz, I decided to go with the April kit. They were featuring the Amy Tangerine Plus One line as part of the kit and I knew I had to get my hands on it. In total, my kit was around $50 Canadian (one time kit purchase) and included 8 cardstock, 10 double sided pattern paper, three die cuts, full pack of chalkboard labels, gems, blossoms, veneer stars, 2 rolls of ribbon, a mini and full size alphabet set and the Amy Tangerine Plus One binder clips. Wow! When the kit arrived I was very excited and want to start playing instantly.
The kit came just a few days into April, and was packaged beautifully in a box. I was shipped from Calgary, where Scrap Shotz is located, to Vancouver and it only cost about $12 (included in the above cost) so that was impressive. Also, included was the current Scrapbook & Cards Today magazine – what a treat!
Here is a quick snapshot of just how much it includes and how great the contents are:
Ok, I have my scrapbooking kit and now to showcase it using three different sketch challenges.
Sketch 1: ScrapMuch? Sketch-y-Friday – April 11, 2014 – I absolutely love when a sketch challenge features more than one photo. I am also really drawn to any sketch with a circle as a feature or focus on the page. This Sketch-y-Friday offered both – yahoo! Here is the sketch:
I considered a number of event photos for this sketch, but landed on some pictures of my nephew and I when he was just weeks old. This sketch was really open to allowing you to use any orientation of photos (as you can see here I went with a portrait 4×6 vs. the square in the sketch).
Here is my take on the sketch:
Supplies from the Scrap Shotz April kit: Amy Tangerine Plus One Friend, Amy Tangerine Plus One Duo, Amy Tangerine Plus One Partner, teal and black cardstock, Studio Calico Printshop Laser-Cut Wood Veneer Shapes (Stars)
Supplies from my own inventory: Heidi Swapp Stickers (Michaels Collection), Tim Holtz Collection Stampers Anonymous Layering Stencil (Dot Fade), Stampendous Clear Embossing Ink, Recollections @ Michael’s Embossing Powder, Simple Stories DIY Clear Sticker Message, “You & Me” woodblock (supplier unknown), Typeset Alphabet (supplier unknown), Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue
Sketch 2: Sketchabilities #113 – Another amazing sketch! I find their sketches leave just so much amazing room for creative license, feature a lot of different textures and styles, and inspire you to get a little crazy with either mists, paints or layering – oh heck, how about all three!
Here is the sketch:
I went through a lot of photos to try and land on two that would work with this sketch and the kit, but struggled for some reason until I found the Amy Tangerine Plus One “Love” 4×6 cut out card on one of the pattern papers in the kit – then I knew, this layout was meant for this great photo of my parents at a wedding we went to last fall. Here is my take on the sketch:
Supplies from the Scrap Shotz April kit: Amy Tangerine Plus One Partner, Amy Tangerine Plus One Peer, Amy Tangerine Plus One Duo, Amy Tangerine Plus One Bits, Prima Marketing Inc Flowers (assorted), Prima Marketing Inc Stationer’s Desk – Say it in Crystals, American Crafts DIY Shop Fancy Labels
Supplies from my own inventory: Magenta Page Craft Ink Pad, Colorbok Transparency Frames (sorry we don’t have a link – website is under construction), Around the Block Big Metal Brads – Hearts and Arrows, Bo Bunny Double Dot paper (Raspberry), Heidi Swapp Color Magic Letters, Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue
Sketch 3: Scrap365 Sketch Day = Happiness – Well anytime you include the word happiness in your blog post and name for a sketch challenge, you have me hooked! Oh, the happiness this sketch brought me. All Scrap365 sketches are so versatile and easy to adapt to your style, the photos you have available, and in my case the kit I have available. Here is a look at their sketch:
I was looking for a sketch that would allow me to line up these three silly photos of myself and my brothers poking our head into the glass dome of the large fish tank at my local aquarium. The Scrap65 sketch and the green focused portions of the Scrap Shotz kit provided a perfect opportunity.
Here is my take on the Scrap365 Happiness sketch:
Supplies from the Scrap Shotz April kit: Amy Tangerine Plus One Ensemble, Amy Tangerine Plus One Combo, green and white cardstock, Jillibean Soup Spicy Social Soup Mini Alpha Stickers, Jillibean Soup Gumbo Green Thin Chip Beanboard Alpha
Supplies from my own inventory: We R Memory Keepers Enamel Shape (Neutral), Close to My Heart Marquee Enamel Shapes, Tombow Mono Multi Liquid Glue
Overall, I really enjoyed working with the kit provided by Scrap Shotz. The only wee ‘snag’ I ran into came while creating this blog post and trying to link to products used in my layouts; the Scrap Shotz kit description does not list exactly which products are provided. So unless they come in their original manufacturing packaging, I was scrambling a bit to get you all of the above links. However, there is always a silver lining 🙂 – as I poked around for links, I was shopping! Ha ha.
Next 1 to 3 Challenge here I come, stay tuned – or try your own and tell us about it!

[…] Hello kit lovers! It’s been ages since we did a 1 to 3 Challenge post. The low Canadian dollar makes it less than enticing to order gorgeous kits from our American scrappy pals, so I went on the hunt for some new and exciting home-grown kits. (We have done a 1 to 3 with a Calgary-based kit club before, check that out here.) […]
