Who can resist Once Upon A Sketch?
Here at Scrapstorian we love the Once Upon A Sketch (OUAS) monthly challenges; both the sketch and the amazing submissions from all over the world are an inspiration. If you are looking for some insight on how to bring mixed media techniques to your scrapbook pages – this is the blog to check out!
Now remember OUAS does not just post a sketch challenge though, they include a theme and journaling component, which I think is a really cool twist. This month’s theme is “Totally addicted to ….”
Here is the OUAS Sketch challenge:
At first I was thinking coffee, volleyball, scrapbooking, hiking but when I started looking through photos, I kept coming back to an engagement photo of my fiancé and I laughing. I am totally addicted to him and how much he makes me laugh; that felt so right for the theme so I went with it! Here is my take on the sketch:
Here is a close up of the hidden journaling I have tucked behind the photo with a little tab, outlining how and why I am so addicted to my fiancé – a sweet little message to look back on in the coming years.
Supplies: American Crafts Textured Cardstock (white), Echo Park Yours Truly (Love Notes), Ranger Ink Distress Ink Pads (fired brick), Heidi Swapp Color Shine (black velvet), and Heidi Swapp Embellishments and Stickers
For me, the OUAS design team layouts are as intimidating as they are inspirational; I love them but just never know if I could replicate all the layers, texture and detail. I wanted to challenge myself for this one, and let go of the idea that it had to look like any other layout. I started with white cardstock and played with as much paint, texture, mist and ink as I wanted to. (I got a little preoccupied, though, and completely forgot the journaling prompt! Oops.) Here’s the result:
Supplies: unknown white cardstock, Liquitex gesso, Martha Stewart Crafts White Texture Effect, Art Advantage Gouache, Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Rays), Artist’s Loft watercolours, Faber-Castell Gelatos, Tim Holtz Distress Paint (Picked Raspberry), Fancy Pants Designs Be Loved ephemera, Scraptastic cut aparts, Maggie Holmes for Crate Paper 6×6 paper, Heidi Swapp Colour Shine (Peach), Dylusions Ink Spray (Vibrant Turquoise), My Mind’s Eye Follow your Heart paper, Pink Paislee Colour Wash tag, Stampin’ Up! punch, Martha Stewart Crafts punch
Tim Holtz Layering Stencil (Bubble), Random Flowers complimented by Recollections mini brads , CTMH Waxy Flax (Brown), Heidi Swapp Heart, Tim Holtz Film Strip, random hat pins and embellishments from my collection
Thanks again OUAS for another great sketch challenge!
LOVE YOU GUYS TAKES VERY AWESOME.
You girls sooo rock…& thanks for the ‘shout out’…just amazing how the same sketch can turn out so differently, too…..love ’em all – thanks for joining us at OAUS…& guys, remember, if you haven’t already done so, you can link this to our Once Upon A…Sketch Facebook Page for a chance at our special FB prize!
Thanks Lizzy for your kinds words and the Facebook reminder! Will do!
Hi girls, wonderful layouts again.
Brande I love the red and black on the white it is gorgeous and the journalling tag is such a wonderful touch with the red heart. Very special.
Cheryl, Great job tackling the whole mixed media thing head on. It is not easy but it is fun.
Shar a wonderful tribute to your Grandma and a very special photo.
So glad that you could join us again this month, but can I please ask you a favour for next month and any up coming months. Can you please link each of your layouts separately … this way makes it hard for the DT to vote. You can stay in this format but just link each of your layouts separately. Thanks so much and thanks for playing along with us again at OUAS. 😀
Thanks for the kind words!
We’d love to make it easier for you all, because we appreciate you coming by, but have found the link tool won’t accept a duplicate link. Is there a way around that?
Brande, love how the red draws my eye right to your touching photo!! Love the heart on your journaling tag too!! Thanks for sharing your beautiful work on our FB page!
Cheryl, love your take on the sketch with these absolutely darling photos. Is there anything sweeter than a girl wishing on a dandelion? Love your colors and design. Thanks for sharing your sweet work with us on our FB page!!
Shar, what a beautiful layout for this sweet photo of your grandmother. She looks so very happy here!!
So glad you were all able to join us for our February OUAS challenge. To answer your question in the reply above, If you each create your own post with your challenge submissions rather than putting them in one post together, you can each link up your projects.
If you want the beginning part to be the same, an easy way to do that is to write the beginning of the post then click on the HTML tab, copy the HTML code and then open a new post, click on the HTML tab and paste the HTML code there.
I hope that helps. 🙂 ~ Blessings, Tracey
Thank you so much Tracey! I was wondering if there was a way to post more than once from the same link, but it’s certainly easier to do separate posts. We will try to streamline the process for you ladies next time. 🙂
Thanks so much, ladies. Yes, the linky program is only set up to allow one link per post. One of the reasons we’d like you to each link is that when the designers are voting for our faves for the month, they may not realize there are three layouts entered and only the linked one may get considered for the voting. Have a lovely weekend!! ~ Blessings
I should have mentioned – one link per post per challenge. If you were each entering a “different” challenge, you could each link with no problem, but since you are all wanting to link to the same challenge at OUAS, it will only allow one link per post. I hope that makes sense. 🙂 ~ Blessings, Tracey
It does! We will post and link separately from here on out; we appreciate the time you guys put into this and want to make it easier for you! Thanks again. 🙂
Thanks for explaining! 🙂
