Scraptastic 1 to 3 with Cheryl

Hey all! I figured since my February Scraptastic kit is sitting on my desk, it’s probably time to show you what I did with the January kit …  😉

Here’s a quick look and what’s included in the kit:

I love the papers from Studio Calico Print Shop and Pink Paislee Colour Wash; the wood veneers and flare are awesome too. I love everything, really, it’s a great kit. I first put it to work with this mood board from Scrap Around the World. This was actually my first time working from a mood board. So fun! It’s much easier than a sketch, for me, because a mood board offers so much freedom.

This Glitz paper felt like a perfect fit for the colours in the top left photo on the board, so I started there.

I used small strips of paper in the background to mimic the pink watercolour stripes, then added gold to the edges of all the paper layers to bring in a touch of shine. The only mood board colour I felt I was missing at the end was purple; I fixed that with a few splatters of Blackberry Cordial Glimmer Mist. (Just so you know, the teal behind the photo was a happy accident. I tried added gold and teal to a doily but couldn’t make it work. As I cleaned up the mist with a baby wipe, I wondered how it would look on the paper, so I swiped it on with the baby wipe.)

My second mood board/sketch challenge came from Black with Two. I loved the idea of a sketch, colour and journaling inspiration all rolled into one.

I quickly discovered the black card stock background would be tricky, since I had none. A piece of black paper from My Mind’s Eye Chalk Studio saved the day! I wanted to use the amazing brush script but the letters were white and the challenge rules state only five percent white. Black watercolour pencil to the rescue!

I added black splotches all over the background as well, using plain old watercolours. I chalked the edges of all the paper layers and the photos with VersaMagic Midnight Black, added two layers of turquoise behind the photos and played with all the pink and turquoise I could find in the die cut pack. I figured since I got rid of the white text, I could sneak in the white and black flair badge at the top.  😉

Supplies: Echo Park Hot Pink Ombre, Studio Calico Her Swatches and Bazzill Pink Fairy paper from Scraptastic January 2014 Tongue Tied kit, Echo Park Paper Birthday Wishes paper, unknown card stock, Scraptastic wood veneer frame, VersaMagic ink, Artist’s Loft watercolours and watercolour pencil, Scraptastic flair, Studio Calico die cuts

That’s it for mood boards, and it’s back to a regular, and awesome, sketch from Canadian Scrapbooker. As always, it’s designed by Sue Sykes.

02_FEB2014SKETCHI approached this one a little differently; circles are hard for me for some reason! I combined several Silhouette cut files to create a background.

After that, things came together easily! I used the left over grey card stock from the circles to create a home for the photo, title and journaling in the middle of the page. A few paper layers (mostly scraps from the previous pages) and a colourful banner were all I needed. I added some die cuts and flair to a few circles and done!

  1. Lovely layouts. They are all amazing. The one for BW2 is perfect. Love the handwritten journalling and that little white flair is perfect.

  2. Lovely work all around, Cheryl. I’ve just discovered BW2 this morning from a link on someone else’s blog and it led me to this beautiful blog. I played the Canadian Scrapbooker challenge as well – great interpretation on it. Are you also Canadian? I’m in Ontario. Would love to have you come and play our Another Freaking Scrappy Challenge blog as well. You’ll find links from my blog to there. Really loving how you’ve done the background for Scrap Around Challenge this month – I playing along yesterday and am posting today.
