We can’t get enough sketch inspiration these days! This one from Sketchabilities is full of layers and details; it inspired us all.

I really like this sketch; the straight lines, yet feminine feel of it (with the swirl and lace embellishments) made me think of my Grandmother instantly. My Grandma is a blunt woman who applies logic to all things and yet is so creative and has a wonderful imagination; a perfect blend. I wanted to demonstrate some of her creative sides (the ‘dream’ word stamp and notebook punch for her love of books, the various lace and ribbon embellishments for her love of sewing, a lot of blue for her tough tomboy side and some pinks and blossoms for how feminine she is). I have heap loads of love for my Grandma – so I may have put too much pressure on myself for this layout. Do you know what I mean? You have this super, awesome vision for the page and will not forgive yourself one little bit if it doesn’t exactly match that vision. Are all scrapbookers perfectionists? I think a little.

Supplies include: Bazzill cardstock, some random blossoms, Heidi Swapp ‘family’, lace and plastic blossoms from my partner in paper Cheryl and pattern papers from Stampin’ Up!

Well, what can I say? Sketchabilities #106 was a great sketch for sure, a very flexible sketch for different themes, colours and embellishment combos! Thanks Karan Gerber, I had some fun with this one. I had a great one photo layout planned for my Disney album that was perfect for this!

The first thing in the sketch that caught my eye was the spray splatters! After picking a great background pattern from one of my MOST USED pads (Awesome Boy by Recollections), I enhanced it with a few squirts of Heidi’s Black Velvet followed by Fireworks Rhubarb Stalk and finished of with a spray, okay maybe two, of Glimmer Mist by Tattered Angels.

Moving on to my background strip, a scrap of Bo Bunny Camp A Lot Dot (this is why we should always have a useful scrap bin). To add the aged distressed look, I rubbed Mr. Holtz’s Distress Ink in Brushed Corduroy and Pumice Stone together on my mat, added a squirt of water and then rubbed my strip of Bo! A small spray of the Fireworks mentioned above gave it a tinge of red. I distressed the edges with complimenting Jumbo Java! Next, I added in a couple of 5×7 cut outs of matching patterns, also with inked edges of Jumbo Java, a couple of strands of Waxy Flax by CTMH and a token by the master himself, Tim Holtz.

After inking some Barbwire Border Chip from Leaky Shed Studios (LOVE THIS STUFF, what a score!) and then some cogs from The Dusty Attic with – you guessed it again – Jumbo Java and a squirt of Glimmer Mist (these chip products LOVE ink), I have the perfect embellishments for this layout!

I also thought the background could use a little more, so using the Splattered Layering Stencil by TH, I used Jumbo Java to place a couple of random stains plus a wired heart. Distressing my edges and a last touch of Jumbo Java complete my look!

I love layers and this sketch has plenty. I changed up some of the textures to go from feminine to masculine, with a corrugated background and a few staples. I have been hoarding the last of this Fancy Pants collection until this layout. I had so much fun with this one; I piled tons of Swagger on.  😉
