I asked my son if he thought we could make something for his teacher. He said yes, so I suggested gift tags. After he admitted to not wanting to help me, I decided to make them metallic and messy! 😉
I originally masked off an area, thinking it would work as a place to write the name, but that changed later. I stamped each one with a Stampendous background stamp and Versamark ink.
Next, I used metallic distress paints, a little Picket Fence and water on each tag. Some have more water than others, some have more copper or more silver …
I wasn’t super happy with the results you see above. I felt everything looked muddy. I added more water to some tags, let the paint move around, heat set them and wiped off the excess paint.
After inking the edges with Festive Berries Distress Ink and adding twine (My Mind’s Eye) and washi tape (Dear Lizzy for American Crafts and MME), I still felt the tags needed something. I don’t have any Christmas product that is not set aside for my December Daily, so adding embellishments was tricky. I decided to punch a star from each tag and add black tags to the back. (Bonus: This also hides the paint and tape on the back!)
And there you have it, a stash-busting (I ran out of tags!) teacher gift you can make in a hour or two.
