Welcome to the first ever Crop Circles Blog Hop!
Crop Circles is an inspiring, amazing, talented group of scrappers, card makers, mixed media artists and paper crafters on Facebook. Most of us are either Newfoundlanders or have a link to the island. The styles, tastes and product choices always vary but the layouts are amazing. I have scrapped more since being added to this group than I ever did on my own. The challenges, ideas and games are always going. This time, we’re using a sketch from Sketchbook365.
I’m first up, so make sure you check the list at the bottom of this post to see where you’re headed next. You have until end of day March 3rd to complete this hop! For every comment you leave along the way your name will be entered to win a Stampin’ Up! bundle valued at $50. You’ll also have chances to win some blog candy along the way from individual bloggers. (Like maybe some Mister Huey from me, hint, hint.)
Now, on to the layout!
This sketch is just asking for lots of patterns and colours. I kept some scraps from patterns I used for a layout last week just for this sketch. They are bright, fun and maybe a little crazy all together! Each pattern has a white base, so I thought a white background would ground them.
After I played with the layers a little more, I wanted to add a black tag. I needed a way to introduce black, because I planned to use it for my title.
Unfortunately, that addition made me unhappy with the original white card stock background, a textured leaf paper from Creative Memories. I decided to cut around the entire page, leaving only a white border. That got rid of the leaves and allowed me to mat everything onto black card stock (a little askew, of course). I added some Heidi Swapp arrows that I coloured with Doodlebug ink and lots of brads from My Mind’s Eye to finish it off.
Supplies: Stampin’ Up! paper, Amy Tangerine envelope and tags, Heidi Swapp chipboard, Doodlebug ink, My Mind’s Eye brads, Recollections mini file folders, Ranger tag, Making Memories letter stickers

Love how you changed it up using the black and the muted tones! Shar I adore the photo, that is one of my fav Mickey hats – loved that you used traditional Mickey colours – it certainly brought a smile to my face at 6am. Whoa Brande – I Love bold colours – especially orange! You totally rocked it out with layering the papers – love this patterns btw! I must also note that I love your shirts in the photo and your faces are priceless!

Way to go ladies! I’m so glad to be a part of C C too!
Congratulations on this – looks great – enjoy all the lovely comments you will get! It is really interesting to see the differences in each layout.
Yes, it’s almost as fun reading all the comments as it is seeing all the layouts!
Love the colors!! they pop!!
I love your page! Cutting the white cardstock, leaving that little bit of border might not have been planned, but it’s a great touch!
Thanks Brenda! We’ll call it a happy accident 😉
OMG! Fun layouts and great sketch!
Great layouts ladies!
Great Job!
Beautiful layouts! And congrats on doing ya’s first blog hop!
Thanks! It was a lot of fun. I don’t think it will be our last.
Your photo is soooo cute, Cheryl, and the patterned papers combo is fantastic! Shar’s Disney lo is DA BOMB!!! LOVE IT! And Brande’s Splash Mountain has an awesome colour combo! Great job, ladies!!!!!
You should see the amazing Disney pages those two did this weekend. Out of control!
I love how you did the title!! Great page, Cheryl!
Thanks 🙂
Lovely layouts, Ladies. Love how you cut around your layout to leave the white boarder, Cheryl. Interesting how used Shar all of the disney papers. I have them and I’m having a hard time figuring out how to use them, but scraps/tags would definitely work. Brande’s title is awesome!
Shar and Brande were using those Disney papers at a retreat this weekend. I know there was one red paper they felt was a washed out colour but they made great use of the rest.
I love how you told us that you didn’t like it and what you did to fix it!! Fabulous job Shar and Brande – love brights!! I am starting to get braver and do more brights. Have a great time at your retreat!
Thanks Cathy! I like hearing about how other people fix a layout that went off course, so I thought you guys would too.
Cheryl….Love that pic! Its hillarious. Great title too! Awesome job with the LO. How smart are you!!! I never would have thought to cut around it and mat it on a darker CS!!! Love the AMY TAN tags and the bright colors!!!
Shar…..Very Cute Disney LO. Love the stars and those awesome papers!! great job!
Brande…Love the layering and the colors are fantastic. Love the pic too!!!! I really like how you did your title! Awesome LO!
I think I asked Brande to come up with titles for 75% of my retreat layouts. 😉
🙂
Awesoem Los ladies! looove your takes on the sketches. Cheryl i really enjoyed how you showed your creative process and love the black! It makes everything POP!
Thanks Michelle!
Ladies, I love your layouts. I need to be a bit more adventurous with using more color and patterns together, they definitely make a great statement.
I think layering little bits and tags is an easier way to start with that, less intimidating!
Love the mix of papers, great job on the sketches
Thanks!
Thanks for playing along with the Blog Hop! It’s been a lot of fun and I love to see how different everyone’s take on the sketch turns out.
Cheryl, your kiddies are so cute! That is a great photo! Love the papers that you chose, so colourful and I agree with you, I like the black background better, it really makes the photo pop!
Shar, Love, love, love those papers! Great Disney layout!
Brande, I always love those candid photos from the rides! Great to see the expresssions on everyone’s face. Love the colours! Great Layout!
Thanks Liz. This was a lot of fun!
Really liked the explanation for each step in your design process. The final LO is terrific!
Thank you! I always wonder if people want to hear about every little step; I include it because I like to read about how other people work.
Great layouts! Love how different they all look coming from the same sketch!!
I know, so fun!
Love the use of the button for the O in “Goofy”. I am always running out of letter and looking to make them out of other items!
Thanks Kelly. It was almost brad overload on this one!
Thanks for stopping by everyone!
Loved the Blog Hop!!! Everyone’s LO was so fun…. it really is mind expanding to look at a template and do your own version, then to see what others come up with, even the simple differences in embellishment placement! SO COOL! LETS DO IT AGAIN!!!
