Double the Fun

I finally, finally finished a double page spread that’s been on my desk all week! I started with the Double the Fun sketch by Kelly Klapstein for Canadian Scrapbooker magazine. My layout looks nothing like the sketch however …  I loved the sketch; I just wandered away.  😉

(I have a lot to learn when it comes to good photos of double page spreads! Please be patient.  ;))

Another starting point, besides the sketch, was this printable from Setting for Four. It seemed like the perfect title, or at least the beginning of the perfect title. The printable is chalkboard art, so I downloaded this chalkboard background and started to play with font called Peach Sundress.  I checked out this tutorial before I started but really just played for a few minutes until I was happy with the title block.

The photos are of simple, every day life around our house, so the title continues on from, “Our home is filled with love,” to include, “and Lego and laundry and laughs …” so I could explain through the journaling that, of course there’s a lot of love in our house but there’s also a lot of madness. The Fancy Pants Good Life collection fit perfectly with that idea. I used the calendar paper to mimic the circular elements in the sketch. I also used a circle die to create faux stitching around some circles. (Watch Lynn Ghahary do that here.)

I did include a circular photo on the left side of the spread, to bring the two pages together and used every Fancy Pants banner on my sticker sheet to draw attention to it. (Can you say stash busting? I’m workin’ on that!)

Supplies: Fancy Pants paper, stickers, and chipboard, Lifestyle Crafts circle nesting dies, Sizzix Big Shot, Color Box Mixed Media Inx in Schoolhouse, Harmonie stamp, Zig Millennium pen, Peach Sundress font, Foolish Fire chalkboard background
