Okay, that’s as clever as I can be after three failed misting experiments.
This week’s Playing in Paradise Challenge from Scrapbooker’s Paradise is to use mists. I love mists and have a growing collection of Mister Huey’s, Sprinklers and Glimmer Mists. I love them, but may not use them as often as I’d like. That may be why this was such a misadventure. I over-sprayed a background, chose a bad colour combo for another and then gave up and put my masks away. My masks are stored pretty close to my specialty paper and vellum.
Hmm …
Would you even see mist on vellum? I decided to find out. I figured I should aim to create a card, since layouts were apparently not what the universe had in mind for me tonight. I chose a small mask from Tattered Angels (in the shape of a film strip, but you won’t really be able to tell), Sprinklers in Carbon Copy and Icebox and one Mister Huey in Taxi.
The vellum curled like crazy with the mist (I said I over-spray, remember?) but I set it with my heat gun from both sides and got it kind of straight. I didn’t take any photos of the process because I wasn’t convinced I’d have a project to show for it. In the end, I really liked the look of the somewhat splotchy, uneven mist over the vellum and trimmed the edges, so that the mask shape was gone. I punched two butterflies from it as well.
The misted panel sits on top of some Pink Paislee paper, which I mimicked by adding drops of each colour over the top. Not a masterpiece, perhaps, but a fun any occasion card salvaged from a night of scrapping disasters 😉
Thank You for Playing in paradise this week. Love your vellum ovelays and misting, very effective art work.
Thanks for coming over to see it! I hope to work on many more Playing in Paradise challenges.

I’m not sure there is such a thing as too much misting lol 🙂 Misting on vellum?? I would never have thought of it, but I love how it turned out. Beautiful effect with the drops mimicking the pretty paper. Thanks so much for Playing in Paradise this week; hope to see you again soon.
Hugs, Dawn
Haha, it’s only too much when you can see it bleed around the edges of your mask! Thanks 🙂
Mists scare me too! I have them but I rarely pull them out! Thanks for playing with us at Scrapbooker’s Paradise this week!
I find myself using them more to splatter colour than to actually mist any sort of pattern. Apparently, that technique needs work 😉
Over-misting…how I hear you! Nothing quite so frustrating as watching the whole project curl up in front of your eyes. So glad you persevered, because this turned out really neat! I haven’t tried misting on vellum & may have to give it a whirl today 🙂 So glad you could play in Paradise with us this week!
Congrats on winning the PPC! I love the color combination on your card 🙂
Thanks!
